Students are required to write a paper that (1) applies an ethical theory to a (2) documented ethical dilemma.

In this paper students will need to select an ethical dilemma.  A good dilemma should be a practical problem that requires action, but whose options for action each represent a moral problem of some sort.  Examples of ethical dilemmas include, but are not limited to abortion, climate change, genetic engineering, social policy, political policy, business activities, and so forth.

After choosing a dilemma, students should research the problem so as to document the moral problem and the proposed practical options.  In the paper student will choose 1 ethical theory (deontology, utilitarianism, virtue theory, egoism, or natural law theory), explain the theory in detail using original source material, and (3) offer a solution to the moral dilemma through a moral analysis of the issue from the vantage point of the chosen ethical theory.
