Course Project Overview

For the course project that you will turn in during Unit 10, you will develop an IT strategic management proposal, using either your current or recent employer’s organization or one you have read about. For the final proposal, you will be asked to apply all the topics covered in this course to your chosen organization. You will be encouraged to revise and reuse your previous assignments, including this one.

This Week’s Assignment

Examine your chosen organization and assess the leadership model and organizational structure it currently uses. In order to demonstrate that you have thoroughly analyzed the literature on leadership styles and organizational structures, you are expected to compare and contrast two theories in each category and then assess the theories or models used in your organization. Base your analysis on the readings from Units 1 and 2 as well as on your own research.

Include the following in your paper:

Compare and contrast two leadership theories for their applicability to IT management leadership.
Compare and contrast two organizational structure models and their impact on an IT organization.
Analyze the relationship between leadership style and organizational structure in an IT organization. Include in your discussion how a leadership style, when used by the CIO or other senior IT executive within an enterprise, might create a trickle-down effect throughout the organization. Use evidence from your organization, as well as from your readings and research, as examples in your analysis.
