Section A: Instructions
Purpose 1. To demonstrate your ability to

Weighting 40% of your total course mark
30 marks: write an academic essay (1000-1200 words)
10 marks: include 10 words from the Academic Word List in your essay
Essay task An increasing trend in households around the world, especially in the current Covid-19 context,
is the growth of boomerang children. These young adults have lived independently away for
various reasons but have now returned to live with their parents. Write an academic essay that
explains each of the following: Why are young adults returning to live at home? What are the
benefits of parent-child coresidency? What are the challenges facing both parents and their
adult children?
You may use ANY (a minimum of four) of the six readings in Section B (pages 3-8). You do
NOT need to search for other readings on the Internet or Masseys library.
You MUST include 10 different words of your choice from the Academic Word List (download
the file from Stream). Make sure that the word is used appropriately and dont forget to
UNDERLINE these 10 words in your essay.
A title page (or title) is NOT needed but include your FULL name and ID number on the first
page. Include page numbers at the bottom of each page. Use Arial, 12-point font and 1.5 linespacing for your essay.

Submitting
your exam
Upload your essay with the 10 underlined academic words to Stream by Monday, 2 November
(by 11:59 pm NZ time). NO EXTENSIONS ARE ALLOWED. Submit as a Microsoft docx file
(use https://cloudconvert.com to convert any pdf, pages or other file types).

easy to follow.
