Week 6 literature –  Write 1 Paragraph about something you read from the following excerpts.  This is a long read and heavy on the theoretical stuff. It also contains material relating to sex and sexual violence. The format contains many footnotes that explain why the pages look the way they do.

The ideas presented here offer a perspective on identity, identity politics, social interaction, social institutions, culture, and how each of these (and more) can be important components to identity construction at various social levels.

I’m giving you more time for this, just under two weeks, and if you need more it’s ok, just let me know. As far as this class goes, this may be one of the most important pieces of literature on understanding how categories of race and gender intersect and how we can potentially use Crenshaw’s work to understand the dynamics and intersections of various identity constructs. Crenshaw’s work outlines a lens of analysis called Intersectionality – a way to think about how social categories interact and intersect in a variety of ways.

Week 6  film – Write 1 Paragraph about something you saw in the film.

This weeks film is a documentary that explores Asian identity, Asian-American identity, American identity, Hip Hop culture,  gender, along with various other important topics and intersections.

Week 6 listening –  Write 1 Paragraph about something you heard or watched from these playlists. Try and listen to each year and briefly discuss some things you notice 1) about one specific video  or song and 2) any change over time you notice in sounds and aesthetics.
