For this assignment, select two case studies from different health care settings for analysis. This analysis focuses on issues surrounding how EHRs interact with patients, other health information systems, and others outside the health care organization. Be sure to complete all assigned EHR course activities before you complete this assignment, so that you can add perspective from your growing EHR knowledge and skills to your analysis.

Choose the two case studies from this unit’s resources provided; provide the citations in current APA style and format; and give an overview of each case study you chose. Based on your reading of the case studies, your experience in using the EHR in the course, and further research in industry or scholarly resources, write your case study analysis to meet the following criteria:

Compare the EHR applications.
Compare and contrast the two applications in your studies, as well as the EHR you used in course activities.
Evaluate strategies for assuring that EHRs promote secure and efficient patient data-sharing among personal health records (PHRs) and health information exchanges (HIEs).
Identify the security measures within each system.
Explain if interoperability was or was not achieved.
Identify if the EHR system would be part of an HIE.
Identify if the EHR system had a patient portal or other means for sharing information with a patient.
Describe ways to optimize the use of EHR data within the healthcare environment.
Identify ways that each system could be optimized.
Using your experiences with the EHR course activities, explain how this system could be optimized.
Summarize the challenges to EHR adoption.
Compare and contrast the EHR challenges faced in both environments
Identify the requirements for a successful EHR implementation.
Compare and contrast the requirements of successful HER implementation in both environments.
Identify the organizations involved in setting standards for EHR systems.
Identify standards that would need to be addressed in both environments.
