Topic: Navigating the knowns and unknowns of the Covid-19 crisis: a worldwide public health emergency, a scientific puzzle, the race for a vaccine. Much progress since December 2019 but we are still in the midst of it.
From your collected materials, you will build an article for a general reader with or without a science background. In other words, we want you to submit a piece of science writing using a journalistic approach. Some academic and non-academic references will be provided but you are encouraged to find your own sources of information and inspiration depending on the angle you decide to give to your article.
Please note: an enormous amount of literature has been generated on Covid-19 since December 2019. This unprecedented health crisis can be investigated from many different multidisciplinary angles, including the origin and evolution of the virus, epidemiology, pandemic containment measures, immune response, pathogenesis, therapeutic intervention, the need for a vaccine, the impact on the economy, loss of jobs, the changes in the school system and academic life, personal stories of patients and health workers, and more. You can decide which angle you focus on and the format for your paper; however, you should keep in mind that this assignment is for an immunology course and that some immunology- related information should be included in your writing.
1) This paper is worth 30% of your total grade for this course.
2) Your paper can refer to any assigned course content [required/recommended readings (e.g. articles, textbook), references provided on slides], or additional references that you find on your own. Please do not reference lecture slides.
3) Consider the role of cultures, health care organizations, health policy, media and individuals in thinking about the problem and its potential solution not all of these points need to be included. Still, you must be able to discuss your topic from a multidisciplinary perspective.
