Post in the Collaboration Forums.  Explain how you would correlate our Criminal Justice Management course to this film.  This may be at the Executive Management, Middle Management, or Line Supervisor level.  There is no right or wrong answer; however, make an effort to demonstrate how each influences the other in a positive manner.

Classmate response:

In the film, Service, Support & Justice: Law Enforcement Response to Crime Victims, Office for Victims Crime, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, the officers detailed several ways on how they can build relationships with victim’s and help them through the legal process rather than solely focusing on the prosecution of the offender.

Victims of crimes often feel like they were taken advantage of or their personal space/privacy was invaded.  One policy I particularly liked that a department implemented was to provide an update to victims within 36 hours. Additionally, officers are providing vast resources to the victims to help them recover and seek further phycological help.

I believe this film can be correlated to the course through all levels of management.  At an executive level, departments can reach out to companies that provide victim recovery assistance and build a working relationship where they can refer these victims to seek further help.  At middle management, they can create policies that require patrol officers to provide victims with additional resources and host trainings specializing in compassion to victims of crimes.  As a line supervisor, they can assist patrol officers by offering them their support and remind them that showing a little compassion to victims goes a long way.  Not only for their self esteem, but the victim’s willingness to cooperate with the investigation/legal process.
