Each year, Fortune Magazine publishes its Fortune Global 500, which is a list of the 500 largest global companies based on revenue. The 2016 list, as published on July 20, 2016, identified Volkswagen (VW) as the seventh largest global company and the largest automobile company, narrowly finishing ahead of Toyota.

Suppose VW has announced plans to build an automotive parts production facility just inside the city limits of a small retirement community in Florida. VW stated that they were attracted to the location because of the quality of life.

The plant would be approximately 2 million square feet on a 200-acre site and employ about 1,600 production workers and managers. VW stated that their second choice for a location is in Mexico. The city council has scheduled a public hearing in 2 weeks.

Prepare a paper of at least three pages that addresses the questions below.

  1. Who is likely to be in favor of the plant, and what would be their main arguments?
  2. Who is likely to oppose the plant, and what would be their main arguments?
  3. How would a VW representative respond to the arguments of those opposed?
  4. What other benefits could the VW representative offer the city for approval?

Your paper should present an insightful and thorough analysis of the case, including strong arguments and reasonable interpretations based on the topics discussed in this course thus far. Your paper must contain a minimum of three pages of content and include a title page and reference page.

Be sure to include at least one outside source, and make certain that your references are formatted in APA style.

Note: The scenario in this case study has been developed for this course and is not a real situation.
