For your first major writing assignment, you will write an analysis of the 2012 HBS case study on Sir Alex Ferguson. To be clear, this is not an essay about Ferguson himself or Ferguson’s management style. It is also not a reiteration of why he was so successful in his managerial career.
This is a single-source essay and requires that you use only the HBS case study for source material. You may discuss what you learn about case studies along the way, if applicable, but this is not a requirement.
The essay is intended to discuss some of the possible interpretations of the HBS case, and why and how Ferguson was presented in this way. That is, you are being asked to think about why the authors of the case study chose to present the version of Ferguson that they presented; why were certain type of information privileged and highlighted whilst others were completely left out. Essentially, at the most basic level, you must consider what the intended message of the case study is and how it is communicated.
