To what extent has the rise of streaming services impacted the popularity of Trap music in the Balkans?
While we know that rap and hip hop music made it to the Balkans in the 90s, to what extent has the rise of streaming services impacted the current popularity of Trap music in the Balkans, and why?

Is it a stretch to consider that streaming services are one of the reasons for its popularity?

Streaming platforms like Spotify and SoundCloud make it easy to discover new genres, songs, playlists, etc. with little to no limitations in terms of whom it reaches. In fact, they curate custom playlists and such based on your liking.

So why is it that trap music has found a large following in the Balkans?

Could it be because of the way some countries see themselves as “ghettos”, and feeling like they can relate to the lyrics like we saw exemplified in the readings by Irene Sentevska and Jasmine Mujanovic on Serbian and Bosnian hip-hop?
