The Leadership Position paper requires each student to consider a definition of leadership and to produce a written discussion of that definition.  This discussion should be concise a maximum of 6-8 pages in length, double spaced, 12 point, Times New Roman font, and adhere to MLA Style.  The paper should not attempt to create a new leadership theory; rather, the paper should address and explain the students understanding of and beliefs about leadership.  It should provide responses to the questions:  What is leadership?  What are the critical factors of leadership?  What are the basic questions that need to be asked about leadership today?  This is not to be just a restatement of the leadership concepts discussed in class. It should be an analysis and a synthesis of your beliefs about what leadership means your leadership philosophy.

The conclusion should include:  What is your defining moment the event that made you the leader you are today or the one you want to be?  What kind of leader are you or do you aspire to?  What are your leadership abilities and leadership style?  How does this style serve you today or you in the future?

While this is an opinion paper, it must be grounded in principle, logic, and experience.

The Leadership Position Paper is an opportunity for each student to organize, in concrete terms, a leadership philosophy.  The intention of this component of the course is for students to better understand their own orientation toward leadership and its principles and styles.
